How Lucky We Were, and Are!
San Marino High School Memories:
Mr. Shickle’s Latin Banquet - the best Roman Toga Party ever!
Grey skirts of all styles - pleated, A-line, straight.
Ducktails - whatever possessed me?
Rollers to curl your hair, eyelash curlers to curl your eyelashes.
Walking home from school, stopping at a friend’s house to do homework.
Driver’s Ed training with Coach Mahoney - frightening but freeing.
Driving by that certain someone’s house, hoping he wouldn’t see you!
Passing that certain someone in the halls, hoping he would see you.
The carpool - which car can I use?
Black Soot, my hand-me-down ‘53 Ford from my brother, with woodpecker cam stickers.
Sonnets to Mr. Gross for his patience with all of his algebra students.
Mr. Ryan’s and Miss Fenner’s efforts to make us literate.
Dr. Clopper’s incredible plays - we were so avant-garde.
Mr. C’s support of our budding artistic talents.
Dr. Kenneth White’s choral and moral instruction at the San Marino Community Church.
Skateboarding on Winston Ave and making my own skateboard from roller skates.
Fortieth Street and ice plant fights - what were we thinking?
The Wedge, frozen bananas, walking Marine Ave, waterskiing in the Back Bay
Cheering for the Titans, particularly on the football field and in the gym, and for Tiny Tim.
Campaign parties, posters, and winning/losing.
Doing the “surfer stomp” at dances in the gym.
Hastings Drive-in - Did I see you there through foggy windows?
Car service at Big Boy’s on Colorado and Drive Through Service at In-N-Out on Foothill.
Crushes and the 45s that reminded you of them.
Proms at the Huntington Hotel - remember the bridge?
KFWB, Soupy Sales, Rendezvous Ballroom, Disneyland.
Chinle, AZ and the Navajo Indian Reservation, a church ‘mission’ spring break trip
Grad night in the gym transformed by parent magicians.
A wonderful time and place to be a teenager - How fortunate we all were!
Memorable Events Since San Marino High School:

Meeting my future husband on a fix-up date in September 1962.
Dating him for four years, marrying in September 1966, and losing him in 2002.
Attending CSUN and becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist.
Working part-time with Santa Monica Malibu Schools and Westside Regional Center.
Raising three children, Katherine, Carolyn and Chris, who are now all married.
Being a grandmother to Margaret, George, Lauren, Emma and Peter.
Running three half-marathons and hiking with friends in Malibu, San Marino, Yosemite.
Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2010, following in the footsteps of Shirley Billingsley in 2006.
Traveling to places on my “bucket list” throughout the world - while I can still make it!
I’m sure there’s more, but I’ve forgotten them
